What is up, Childish Investors?? It's that time of the week again, where we enter the business world, curate all the shit and bring the business world to you.
Usually, monopolies try their best to stay out of the spotlight. But not Google, who’s never gone easy on the pie. (More on that later…)
Let the fat-shaming begin!
So… Are you ready to RUUUMBLE?
🥊 Main Event of the Week
Things are looking bad for Google... Critics and competitors have been bitching about several things:
Google prioritizes its own products in search results
Uses publishers' content without linking to their site
DOMINATES the ad-tech biz
And they're not wrong! Google even has a 90% share of the US search market.
Come on, no reaction? Fine. For representation, Facebook & Amazon are at 56% and 35% of the social site visits, and US eCommerce.
Get it now? Google has been a greedy pig.
Their biggest antitrust case yet is lurking. And it might bite them in the a*s in the following days.
✅ Quick Overview
📌 Speaking of antitrust: Fortnite (Epic Games) and Spotify leading a coalition against Apple
📌 Europe, the next Silicon Valley? Spotify founder to invest $1.2 Billion in European Startups
📌 Investors not impressed by Battery Day 🤔: Tesla stock fell 10% on Wednesday
📌 President Trump paid $750 in income taxes in 2016. Tough year… 😩
👉 It's not the first time that an antitrust case was thrown in Google's way.
In 2013, they got off close. But will they fool the jury again? And how would that impact the rest of us mortals?👀
👁 Sneak peek into the future
It's 2021. Google CEO is enjoying an afternoon of father-son bonding in his office. He smiled as he watched his toddler reciting the alphabet… in Alphabet's HQ.
He decided to stop for a second to appreciate the calm and peacefulness of the moment, when…
“AAAAAGHH”. The ruling had finally gotten to the man’s ear !
The case had been dragging on for months. His wife left for Bezos, who was "not a fucking loser," as she explained to the press. And although they did technically retain their Search market monopoly, Google got quite fucked on other fronts...
First, they saw their main income stream taken away from them. The attorneys general aggressively pursued a break up of their ad technology business.
Second, the public scrutiny around the case forced Google to make small tweaks in their search algorithm (Don’t worry, holy porn was left unscathed by this purge.)
And this means no more prioritizing their own products. And no more bullying the small fishes in the sea.
See, the algorithm was deemed discriminatory against small businesses and new websites. And to encourage the feds to fuck off once and for all, they announced small adjustments to make the internet a level playing field again.
SEO was now sought after by everyone. And Childish Investors saw an opportunity to take over the internet with their new ventures...
👶 Eat your veggies
Ever wondered how pornhub always shows up first when you’re looking for a lil’ help to fire the load? ( Yup, we did talk about that twice 🤦♂️)
One word: SEO, short for Search Engine Optimization.
It’s a method used to optimize the visibility of whatever you’re doing on the internet. And nowadays, it’s a highly demanded skill:
More exposure means more customers, and more customers, mean more potential purchases, organic traffic, etc… Which obviously leads to mo´ money! 💵
Let’s cover the basics:
Know what keywords your audience is using: When a user searches for them, the search engine prioritizes content containing the same words.
Update consistently: Because sites that haven´t produced new content for a while are considered less relevant by the OG.
Watch out for broken links or similar flaws: Because they could bring down the site´s ranking.
Use precise language: Concise and usefully worded sites tend to rank higher in search results.
Remove anything that could slow down your site: (Broken links, useless videos, etc…). The loading speed of your page is a critical factor in SEO.
Be up-to-date with your Niche! Hang out in specific Facebook Groups & Subreddits to get a feel of the language they are using, and what they’re talking about 😉
Thanks for reading, guys. We really hope you enjoyed it! 🙂
